Prayer against Coronavirus

Almighty God, we thank You, praise You and glorify Your Most Holy Name.

Lord, please touch and heal those who are affected by Covid-19. May they feel Your power of healing and cling on to Your Word during this tough season.

In Your Name, we rebuke fear, anxiety, grief and feelings of isolation from people who are receiving treatment or are under quarantine. Give them Your peace that surpasses all human understanding. Protect their families and friends and bring peace to us all who love them.

We know that everything is in Your sovereign control. We ask that You keep this coronavirus from continuing to spread. Give government officials the ability to safely handle people arriving from other countries. Holy Spirit, help people decide to stay at home instead of travelling outside needlessly and remind them to take necessary precautions and consider others around them.

Lord Jesus, we thank You for Your faithfulness in how you have guided and equipped us in our jobs and have provided for us so far. We pray for those who are overwhelmed, not knowing how bills and obligations will be met and those who have lost jobs and businesses and are not be able to provide for their families. As people feel financial strain during the uncertainty, bring them comfort and peace, reminding them that You are there for them. Provide for them in their times of need.

Dear Lord, we lift to You our concern for vulnerable people – who are more likely than others to become severely ill from Covid 19 — the elderly and people with chronic health conditions. And while it may be heartbreaking, comfort families as they decide to keep their distance from elderly or other high-risk family members and friends.

God, as more people get sick, please guide and strengthen healthcare workers and first responders who are working longer hours with fewer supplies and with more risk of contracting the new coronavirus. Renew their energy and sustain them on long shifts. Bring Your angelic protection upon them as they work with new patients.

Inspire researchers to develop better tests to diagnose the virus, create vaccines to prevent it, and identify protocols to eliminate the disease’s spread.

We pray for storekeepers, sanitation workers and delivery drivers. Lord, we are so grateful for all the people who continue to work each day so that we are able to eat and get supplies. We ask that You bless and protect them as they serve our communities. Give them the grace to handle things and keep their bodies healthy. And please protect them all from contracting the Coronavirus.

We also pray for leaders responsible for making decisions that affect the lives and futures of our families, communities, countries, and the wider world. We pray that they communicate clearly, truthfully, and calmly — with each other and with the public — and that their messages are received and heeded. May truth and empathy be the touchstones of people setting policies for our healthcare.

Holy Spirit, as families adjust to everyone being home as businesses and schools close, we ask that You guide people in their new realities. Give spouses grace for each other. Prompt worn-out parents to speak words of kindness and encouragement to their children. Help children find creative ways to experience homeschooling and continue learning.

Those who have already lost their battle to death, we pray that their souls, through God’s mercy, may rest in eternal peace.

We pray that You, Oh God may grant all bereaved families Your consolation and strengthen their faith and hope in Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord.

Do not allow us to be indifferent to those who today suffer the loss of a loved one, or who suffer from the absence of work. But give us the courage to accompany and side with those who suffer violence or injustice.

Lord Jesus, give us the grace to hear Your voice and the strength to continue working for Your kingdom in this time of pandemic.

Help us become Your compassionate voice and helping hands to many.

Amen.
