You cannot grieve JESUS and stay happy forever.
If you grieve God, you will be grieved too. You can’t be genuinely happy, grieving the Holy Spirit or wounding and destroying people who are the apples of His eyes.
Unrepentant attitude, unconfessed sin, harsh words, and a lifestyle rebellious to God distances a person from spiritual peace and invites sorrow – that again can be healed by the Lord alone.
No amount of alcohol, relationships, drugs or wealth can give you the simple joy that comes from obeying and honouring the Holy Spirit.
And yes, people who know that Lord have sorrows too – we live in a fallen world after all, not in heaven.
People who love Jesus have sorrows in plenty – but even those when dealt with His help, brings strength, peace, joy and more grace. Truly broken people can tell you how God knew exactly where they were broken, how Jesus stepped in, healed their cracks beautifully and now use them for His glory and for the benefit of the world.
He gives us a promise of beauty for ashes – “To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified” (Isaiah 61:3)
You can have the joy of the world or the lasting joy of heaven. Your call.
