People can leave a legacy of what they have created when they are gone – technology, art, music, literature, architecture, cinema or inventions.
Things built by our hands mean something, but can be destroyed or forgotten, for something better. You cannot build character with your hands. Character is built privately, between you and Jesus, on your knees, in prayer.
What kind of legacy would you like to leave behind for your family and friends? How do you want to be remembered after you die? As intelligent, educated, well-dressed, rich, or successful? All good, but would people MISS you and how you loved them, when you are gone? You may not be aware that you are leaving a legacy. But we all are. Your family will be left with those memories: good or bad. The legacy you leave will become the legacy they will live with, and in turn will become the basis for the legacy your future generations will leave behind.
Legacy is not only property, things or fat bank accounts. The proper legacy is legacy that will not transmit evil, but love, peace, joy and goodness from the Holy Spirit.
A single gossip can destroy your reputation, but a life lived well will give you your legacy. Reputation is what men will say about you on your tombstone, but legacy is what your children will have to live with.
Leave something amazing of yourself behind for the world.
Character and lifestyle that truly honours God and loves and respects all living things, a loving home, a solid family, enriching friendships and kind deeds – to even strangers. Be remembered as a blessing.
Apostle Paul said, “For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:6-7)
Paul didn’t mention how many nations he visited, how many churches he opened, how many degrees he got; he left the legacy of a faithful follower of JESUS. He fought the good fight, he finished the race and he kept the faith. What a warrior of love!
It would be a while before I learned ALL of the Bible and I donno if I ever will, before I die.
So I chose the easy way out today – by loving God and loving people.
