Monday Reflection – July 13

One of my favourite rather quiet heroes from the Bible is the Shunammite woman.

In 2Kings 4: 8-37 we read of her. She recognised the power of GOD resting on Elisha, she began with one meal, but eventually gave the prophet food whenever he passed that way. She urged her husband to provide the prophet with a bed, table, chair and lamp – definitely the sign of a loving, hospitable, wise homemaker. Elisha prayed and GOD gave her e a son. She gave birth, but years later, the boy suddenly died. Instead of panicking, she laid the boy on Elisha’s bed and traveled to Mount Carmel to seek the prophet. When asked if she and her family were okay, she responded with the bold declaration “It is well.” Her faith was rewarded when Elisha returned and prayed, raising her son from the dead.

She inspires me because she chose to give when she saw a need. She got an answer to prayer and she learned to trust GOD even when hit by profound tragedy.

She said to her husband and Elisha’s servant –  IT IS WELL. Twice. I doubt we would say that even once – most likely we would complain to God and to anyone who would listen – about how hard life has become.

Praise and be raised, complain and remain. Run to the throne, not the phone.

JESUS is who you should run to, when pain hits. Run to Him, not away from Him. Scripture can show you all is well, even when life throws us some curveballs.

Dont ask for victory when you don’t see it on the inside. God will honour the trust you put in Him.

Her story is an incredible testament to love, hospitality, faith and perseverance.

Learn from the Shunammite woman.

May we carry our strife, pain, unanswered prayers and sickness TO God. Not far away from Him, to other empty sources that can never fill us.

JESUS is the safest, sweetest, kindest source. Go to HIM. Take your family too.
