The devil is after your fire.
He does not merely care about destroying your health, your family, your life, your relationships or your ministry. He seeks to snuff out the fire of God that burns in you.
That fire is associated with God’s presence and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, as seen at Pentecost (Acts 2:3-4) It is fervent love and unyielding passion for God and His kingdom, that drives a believer to live a radical, committed Christian life.
Olympic torchbearers are prepared for most obstacles they’ll encounter – anything that will snuff out the flame. By the time the flame arrives at its final destination – it has gone off often, has been relit several times – but it remains burning until the closing ceremony.
If nature, humans or any obstacle causes the flame to go out, another torch lit from the original flame is always nearby, to relight it.
Life is pretty much the same. Get your heart aflame. Keep your fire burning – get help from the Word, through fervent prayer and personal time with Jesus. And when it flickers, get help from trusted believers to help it come alive again.
A Christian life is life for Jesus. Life without parole.
Keep that fire burning. You finish well when you finish with the torch alight.
