Indian Election from April 19

India’s Election 2024 will be held in seven phases beginning from April 19. The counting will be on June 4.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Saturday.

Around 97 crore people are eligible to vote in the upcoming polls.

The Model Code of Conduct, which bars the government in power from announcing any new policy decisions, comes into effect immediately after the announcement.

The Lok Sabha polls will be held in a 7 phases from April 19 to June 1.

The Lok Sabha election in Kerala will be held on April 26 and will be conducted in single phase, the Election Commission announced. Kerala is the only state in India that has highest voter turnout and the voting for general assembly polls is generally conducted in single phase.

Assembly elections in Arunachal and Sikkim will be held on April 19, and in A.P. on May 13; elections to the Odisha Assembly will be held in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.

Mr Kumar said that voters older than 85 years of age would be allowed to vote from home.

The tenure of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 16 and a new House will have to be constituted before that. The tenure of the four state assemblies will also end in June.

The phase 1 polling will be held on April 19, the second phase on April 26, third phase on May 7, fourth phase on May 13, 5th phase on May 20, 6th phase on May 25 and the last and the 7th phase on June 1.

India has a multi-party system with two major parties, namely the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, dominating the national politics.
