Pastor praises God, house burns

Apostle Sammy Smith of Grace Cathedral Ministries has livestreamed a fire that engulfed parts his home on the Sunday morning.

This footage, filmed by the pastor in Piedmont, South Carolina, showed flames engulfing the second story of his house, as neighbours and firefighters attempted to put out the blaze.

Smith’s daughter and godson, whose bedrooms were upstairs, lost everything in the fire. But their lives were spared.

Smith repeated “my house is on fire” and “my house is burning is down” before thanking God that no one was injured.

“God kept everybody, everybody’s out safe, the house is pretty much destroyed, but God got us out,” a smiling Smith said, while livestreaming the incident.

“And, you know, God’s will always has to be done. Sometimes we don’t understand his will,” he added, during the impromptu sermon.

He then panned the camera to show that his neighbours had joined in the efforts to douse the fire: “I got my neighbours out here…Everybody out here is just loving on us.”

Once the flames had subsided, Smith went live again. “It’s Apostle Sammy Smith, standing in front of the ruins of my used-to-be house,” he said of his blackened home.

“I just want everybody to know that God is good and that he’s blessing us, and that it’s gonna be alright,” Smith added.

“The firefighters were wonderful … It’s gonna be all right,” he added before asking for prayers. “Y’all just pray for us.”

The house was built only about four years ago.

“Adversity is the advertisement for God,” he later told WYFF, in an interview.  “It doesn’t matter who you are, it doesn’t matter what you do, tragedy and circumstances can happen, you know?”. “You just have to be able to roll with the punches sometimes.”

Grace Cathedral congregants expressed gratitude towards their God for sparing Apostle Smith, reported WYFF.

“Knowing that God had saved their lives, preserved their lives, that was what was important to us as a church family — for us to still have them here,” said church member Thomas Bell. “We could be mourning now, but instead of mourning we can rejoice because we know God saved he preserved.”
